Practice Nurse (28 hours per week)
Are you a Practice Nurse looking for a new and exciting opportunity and wishing to make an impact in primary care? Join our friendly, experienced nursing team at Newent Doctors Practice in the semi‑rural town of Newent.
Position: 28 hours per week across four days, with late shift Thursday evenings and occasional Saturday mornings (overtime paid). Salary negotiable based on qualifications and experience, currently £18.50 to £19.42 per hour.

Key Responsibilities
* Support the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) lead and adhere to IPC policy.
* Assess patient needs and provide evidence‑based care.
* Implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for chronic disease patients.
* Identify, manage and support patients at risk of developing long‑term conditions.
* Provide routine nursing care, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic conditions.
* Review patient medications to enhance compliance.
* Coordinate travel medicine services.
* Maintain accurate clinical records, including appropriate use of read codes and chronic disease registers.
* Prioritise health issues and intervene appropriately.
* Support the team in clinical emergencies.
* Recognise, assess and refer patients with mental health needs.
* Implement adult and child vaccination programmes.
Person Specification
Essential
* Experience working within a nursing team.
* Experience as a practice nurse or community nurse.
* Experience in chronic disease management.
* Wound care/removal of sutures and staples.
* ECG, venepuncture, and new patient medicals.
* Requesting pathology tests and processing results.
* Understanding of PGD requirements and associated policies.
* Women’s health (cytology, contraception, etc.).
* Immunisations (routine, childhood and travel).
* Travel medicine and spirometry.
* Infection prevention and control experience.
* Ability to record accurate notes.
Desirable
* Experience in a GP practice.
* Knowledge of health promotion strategies and local public health issues.
* Mentor or teaching qualification.
* Postgraduate diploma or degree in Chronic Disease Management.
* Nurse Prescriber.
* Family Planning qualification.
