Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated team member to join the research team led by Dr Roberto Galizi at Keele University. The successful candidate will contribute to research aimed to develop capacity and expertise of African scientists in molecular biology, basic bioinformatics and vector genetics primarily applied to the control of malaria-transmitting mosquitoes.
Responsibilities
The role will involve technical support towards the timely implementation of training at Keele University in techniques and experimental procedures including molecular cloning, CRISPR technologies, engineering of mosquitoes via embryo microinjections and their genetic and phenotypic characterisation in the laboratory.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a science-based A level qualification or equivalent, or have equivalent experience. Experience of working in a laboratory setting is essential and theoretical and practical knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques such as molecular cloning, DNA/RNA/Protein extraction/purification, PCR/qPCR and gel electrophoresis is desirable. Previous work experience using insects, and/or genetic engineering technologies in insects or model organisms and practical knowledge of CRISPR is also desirable.
