Job Summary
Senior Speech and Language Therapist – manage a complex caseload of residents at Adderley Green and deliver high‑quality, person‑centred assessment and intervention within a multidisciplinary setting. Take full personal, professional and legal responsibility for your specialist caseload, working independently while seeking support and supervision when required.
Job Responsibilities
* Carry out detailed communication and swallowing assessments using formal and informal tools, including perceptual analysis and in‑depth language assessment, to support accurate clinical decision‑making and contribute to differential diagnosis and prognosis.
* Work closely with residents, families and carers, providing clear and compassionate explanations of complex communication, voice and swallowing difficulties.
* Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing specialist Speech and Language Therapy input to care planning and decision‑making.
* Lead swallowing programmes, including PEG feeding, in collaboration with nursing teams, kitchen staff and dietitians to ensure safe swallowing practice and appropriate nutritional intake.
* Assess need for communication aids and support residents and carers in the use of those aids.
* Provide direct support and supervise staff, ensuring professional accountability and adherence to policies and procedures.
* Train therapy assistants and carers, and support colleagues in delivering communication and swallowing programmes.
* Collaborate with psychology colleagues on complex capacity issues, employing strong motivation, negotiation and problem‑solving skills to support positive outcomes.
Qualifications
* Current HCPC registration.
* Experience managing a caseload involving assessment and treatment of dysphagia.
* Experience working with families.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Current UK professional registration.
* Subject to DBS disclosure; must meet the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 requirements.
