Overview
This role is a Rehabilitation Support Worker in a specialist, multi-disciplinary FiND Service for service users with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). The service offers a 2-day-per-week programme over a 3-8-week period, providing an intensive package of cognitive behavioural psychotherapy, physiotherapy, psycho-education and rehabilitation skills training. The successful candidate will work under guidance of therapists to deliver a blend of psychological, physical and occupational rehabilitation and to run education groups for patient cohorts.
Along with the assistant psychologist, the post holder will co-lead individualised self-management sessions and support the Physiotherapist in providing personalised physiotherapy. The role includes working both on and off the unit, with or without direct supervision.
Location: Wakefield House, Bethlem Royal Hospital; part of the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust Neuropsychiatry Service.
Responsibilities
* Develop therapeutic relationships with service users and collaborate with the Physiotherapist to provide consistent physiotherapy interventions.
* Deliver self-management sessions in collaboration with the assistant psychologist under supervision of the Physiotherapist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.
* Deliver educational group presentations on topics relevant to FND.
* Provide feedback demonstrating competent observation skills.
* Organise and run group intervention sessions (e.g., gardening groups, physiotherapy workshops) and complete community-based sessions (e.g., outdoor mobility rehab, community visits) as directed.
* Join team meetings and contribute ideas, observations and reflections; liaise with staff and external agencies as required.
* Assist with collecting outcome measures and other relevant data; complete departmental administration (e.g., ordering meals for patients) as needed.
* Comply with risk assessments, identify risks or risky behaviour, and alert appropriate staff; contribute to risk management plans where applicable.
* Complete necessary clinical documentation in line with Trust and professional guidelines; maintain regular cleaning of Physiotherapy equipment per Infection Prevention and Control guidelines.
Qualifications
Essential
* Good general education (minimum GCSE Maths and English).
Desirable
* 2:1 Honours Degree in Psychology or equivalent; experience in health care settings; experience in rehabilitation and working within a multidisciplinary team; experience with clients with cognitive or communication difficulties.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitude
Essential
* Excellent communication skills; ability to work as part of a team; ability to form positive relationships with service users and families; experience disseminating education or knowledge through presentations.
Desirable
* Experience communicating with clients with cognitive or communication difficulties.
Other
* Ability to work on own initiative and problem solve under distant supervision; comply with policies and procedures; willingness to travel within the area; assist with basic practical tasks that promote rehabilitation.
About the Organization
The post is based at Bethlem Royal Hospital with the Neuropsychiatry Service of South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, offering outpatient treatment across three sites and in-patient services at the Lishman Unit. The hospital is located in Bromley, with parking and access to public transport.
