Technical Author – Slaughterhouses and Animal By‑Products – UK BAT – 32429
Environment Agency is looking for a Technical Author to support the UK BAT (Best Available Techniques) program for large slaughterhouses and animal by‑products installations. The role involves drafting BAT conclusions, liaising with Technical Working Groups, and presenting final documents suitable for publication as a new UK‑wide environmental standard.
Responsibilities
* Draft BAT conclusions and prepare technical documentation.
* Liaise with Technical Working Groups and stakeholders.
* Present final documents for publication as new UK‑wide environmental standards.
* Use smart tools to reduce travel; some travel and overnight stays may be required.
* Participate in incident management planning and support.
Qualifications
* At least 5 years of experience in the slaughterhouse and animal by‑products industry.
* Specialist knowledge of the industry, process engineering, and environmental issues.
* Strong understanding of UK and EU environmental legislation (e.g., IED, Environmental Permitting Regulations).
* Ability to critically analyse technical arguments and data.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and document‑writing skills.
* Good project management skills and a drive to complete tasks.
* Experience in collecting and technically analysing complex industrial data.
* Capability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
* Planning, prioritising, and organising tasks to ensure timely and effective results.
* Flexibility to respond to challenges and ability to build consensus.
