Overview
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) to join our Minor Injury Unit (MIU). This is a band 7 ENP role within a nurse-led team, delivering safe, effective, patient-centred care with autonomous assessment, diagnosis, and management. The post offers an opportunity to consolidate and expand advanced practice skills, contribute to service development, and provide visible clinical leadership.
The MIU delivers urgent care closer to home for the local community, handling presentations ranging from musculoskeletal injuries and wounds to minor head injuries, burns, simple fractures and eye problems.
Responsibilities
* Provide autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients presenting with minor injuries.
* Order and interpret investigations (e.g., X-rays) and prescribe safely using PGD guidance.
* Deliver evidence-based care including wound management, musculoskeletal assessment, plastering, and suturing.
* Provide safe discharge planning, safety netting, and appropriate referrals.
* Act as a clinical leader within the MIU, supervising junior staff, students, and MDT members.
* Contribute to audit, service development, and quality improvement to enhance outcomes and efficiency.

Person Specification
Experience
* Essential: Significant post-registration experience in Emergency/Urgent Care/Minor Injury unit/Primary Care; autonomous decision-making; supervision of juniors; involvement in audit/service development or quality improvement.
* Desirable: Previous leadership within urgent/emergency care; research or guideline development; complaints handling.
Qualifications
* Essential: RN with NMC registration or equivalent; post-registration in Minor Injuries/Minor Illness; mentoring/teaching qualification (e.g., ENB 998, PGCE); non-medical X-ray referrer and up-to-date IRMER/CALRAD; evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Desirable: Independent/Non-medical Prescriber (V300); management training; Manchester Triage; qualification in Minor Illness management.
Knowledge & Skills
* Advanced assessment, history-taking, diagnostic reasoning; safe prescribing; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to prioritise, work under pressure, and manage competing demands; safeguarding, governance, and risk management knowledge.
* IT literacy with electronic patient records; extended skills (suturing, plaster application, venepuncture, cannulation, ECG/AXR interpretation).
Education & Training
* Plan and deliver education/training for staff; develop practice at all levels; maintain links with other ENPs for mutual development; commitment to ongoing professional development and annual appraisal.
* Non-medical prescribing course (to be undertaken).

* Salary: £47,810 – £54,710 per year
* UK Registration: Current UK professional registration required
