Purpose of Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a research assistant to engage in participatory action research, to inform working practices across the participating organisations. The role will involve a combination of activities to support the impact and engagement of research projects which aim to improve working lives and employment outcomes for marginalised people. The successful candidate will hold or expect to obtain an undergraduate degree in social sciences with equivalent post graduation experience such as a masters or research experiences.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
These are the criteria on which the short-listing and recruitment selection will be made.
We are seeking to appoint 1 full time research assistant.
1. To undertake data collection (qualitative) to map the impact of disability inclusive science careers.
2. To work with industrial stakeholders to disseminate research findings.
3. To produce research outputs including blogs, factsheets and reports.
4. To carry out the research project to a high standard
5. Meeting planned milestones and deliverables
6. Reporting progress regularly to supervisors, both verbally and in written reports
7. Keeping clear written records of work done, and storing data in accessible formats according to a system agreed with the project supervisor.
8. To collaborate with partners within the project and others as appropriate
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
Essential criteria
Appointment aimed for those holding an undergraduate degree in social sciences with equivalent post graduation experience such as a masters and/or research assistant experience
9. An ability to demonstrate an understanding of equality and diversity in the workplace is essential
10. Experience of undertaking and analysing qualitative research
11. Ability to work with a range of stakeholders
12. Demonstrated ability in writing research outputs
13. Experience in public presentations of research results
14. Evidence of research ability, for example, completing projects on time to a high quality.
15. Ability to work as part of a team within Heriot Watt University and across partners
Desirable criteria
16. Experience in leading the writing of research outputs
17. Experience of leading research engagement activities
18. Evidence of effective social media use as related to research
19. Evidence of web-design, such as writing blog posts
20. Experience of designing and delivering training
