About the role We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Research Assistant to join us supporting a multi-disciplinary team project, in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering. You will be joining a project that is aiming to develop a novel approach to addressing the urgent need for retrofit homes at scale. The project will establish the feasibility of a decentralised, self-managing team model of retrofit delivery, that scales through replication. It will embed the use of home-grown, bio-based materials in retrofit, enhancing local and circular supply chains and building regional wealth. Duties will include: Collecting and analysing data using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods (including interviews, participatory workshops and financial modelling) Developing and testing innovative retrofit delivery models Preparing, conducting and recording the outcome of field work Working with external collaborators to generate shared outcomes As well as delivering high quality research, you will be expected to develop strong and effective working relationships with a wider project team, community partners and external stakeholders. Beneficial experience to bring to the project, would be having completed a further degree in a relevant built environment discipline, or closely related area, and have expertise in at one of the following areas: Retrofit or domestic scale delivery and procurement Architectural, design or construction management Innovative management and business models in the construction industry Participatory design, delivery and construction.
