Senior Occupational Therapist – Children’s Services – Manchester Contract: Full-time | Initial 3–6 months with potential for extension
A local authority in Manchester is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join their Children’s Services team. The service supports children and young people with disabilities to maximise independence, safety, and participation in daily life. As a Senior OT, you will manage the delivery of OT services in line with relevant legislation (e.g. Chronically Sick & Disabled Persons Act 1970), provide supervision to colleagues, and support service development across the team.
Main Duties
* Lead and oversee specialist OT assessments for children and young people with disabilities.
* Advise on and coordinate complex interventions, including housing adaptations, specialist equipment, and moving & handling.
* Provide supervision, professional guidance, and support to OTs, unregistered staff, and students.
* Deputise for the Operational Manager or Service Manager where required, contributing to the wider management of the OT service.
* Monitor and report on professional practice standards, ensuring compliance with HCPC and RCOT codes of ethics and conduct.
* Support safeguarding processes, risk assessments, and multi-agency planning for children and families.
* Contribute to the development of best practice and service improvements across children’s OT provision.
* Promote service user-centred, strengths-based approaches to maximise outcomes for children and families.
Requirements
* Diploma/BSc in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC Registration
* Minimum 2 years’ post-qualified experience within Children’s OT or related services
* Strong knowledge of housing adaptations, equipment provision, and disability legislation
* Experience supervising or mentoring colleagues/students
* Understanding of safeguarding for children and young people
* Enhanced DBS (we can assist)
* Eligibility to work in the UK
* Driving licence and access to a vehicle desirable
