Benefits Officer

Location: Town Hall, South Shields/Hybrid Working.

Salary: £25,989 pa.

We are looking for a team player who is highly organised and self‑motivated with a professional manner and the effective communication skills to work in the Revenues and Benefits Service as part of the Benefits Team.

Responsibilities

• Verifying all types of change of circumstance claims.
• Reviewing benefit claims and, where appropriate, determine, allocate and notify benefit over/underpayments. Promptly and accurately assess entitlement.
• Proactively identifying potential fraudulent claims and making appropriate referrals in accordance with established procedures.
• Liaising with internal and external agencies.
• Dealing with telephone and written enquiries as directed.
