Role: Teacher – History and Politics

Location: The Bedford Sixth Form

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher's Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses. Note – Salary and annual leave entitlement is for that of a Qualified Lecturer.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Teacher in History and Politics to join our Sixth Forms department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Teacher, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

Engaging Teaching & Learning Delivery – Deliver high‑quality, well‑planned lessons that develop students' knowledge, skills and understanding while inspiring curiosity, enthusiasm and a love of learning.
Assessment, Feedback & Progress Monitoring – Provide timely assessments, clear feedback and accurate progress recording to support student improvement, contributing to strong retention and success outcomes.
Curriculum Development & Enrichment Activities – Play an active role in curriculum development and organise subject‑specific enrichment such as trips, visits and external speakers to enhance the Sixth Form experience.
Communication, Reporting & Professional Engagement – Produce progress reports, attend parents' evenings, maintain Health & Safety standards, participate in staff development and represent the Sixth Form at Open Evenings and events.
College‑Wide Responsibilities & Compliance– Support cross‑campus activities including team meetings, ID checks, invigilation and open days while upholding safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and engaging in continuous professional development.

About You

Qualifications & Teaching Credentials – Degree in a relevant subject, Certificate in Education (or equivalent), and GCSE‑level English and Maths, with current A‑Level teaching experience in a Sixth Form or FE environment.
Subject Knowledge & Pedagogical Expertise – Up‑to‑date understanding of syllabus content, teaching methods and ILT, with a strong, proven track record of successful teaching and delivering outstanding learner experiences.
Inclusive Practice, Values & Student Support – Demonstrates commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding and Sixth Form values, creating a welcoming, supportive environment focused on student success and high expectations.
Professional Skills, Communication & Teamwork – Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, able to work effectively in a team, build strong relationships, manage workload pressures and maintain strict confidentiality.
Adaptability, Integrity & Continuous Development – Highly flexible, resilient and improvement‑driven, able to multitask, meet deadlines, uphold professional boundaries, travel across sites and commit to ongoing professional development.

About The Bedford College Group

The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
