We are looking for an experienced and committed Health & Safety Advisor to join our established Health & Safety team at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to support the delivery of a safe working environment for our staff, patients and visitors across a large and diverse NHS Trust.
As a key member of the Health & Safety Department, you will provide competent, evidence-based advice to managers and staff, supporting compliance with legislation, Trust policies and national standards. You will play a central role in driving a positive health and safety culture and supporting the ongoing development of our safety management systems.
This role will work 3 days a week and hours can be discussed at interview.
Main duties of the job
Your role will include:
* Providing specialist health & safety advice to managers and staff across clinical and non-clinical areas.
* Supporting the development and implementation of Trust-wide health & safety procedures and systems.
* Undertaking risk assessments, audits, inspections and incident reviews, ensuring learning and actions are captured and communicated effectively.
* Supporting RIDDOR reporting requirements and liaising with external bodies where necessary.
* Designing, delivering and evaluating training packages that support safe working practices across the Trust.
* Providing manual handling advice, including support for complex patient handling referrals and staff injury reduction initiatives.
* Contributing to Trust and divisional health & safety forums, working groups and audits.
* Supporting continuous improvement initiatives aligned to the Trust's Patient First approach.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Recognised teaching and assessing qualification e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, CTLLS, DTLLS. -or equivalent workplace experience
* NEBOSH National General certificate
* To maintain own professional development; attending a regular trainer update and complete a development portfolio
* Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent
Skills and Abilities
* Strong functional skills using Microsoft 365
* Ability to work accurately and efficiently
* Ability to work across all Trust sites as required
* Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate to a range of staff at all levels within the Organisation
* Development and presentation of data reports
* IT qualification - ECDL, CLAIT or other
Knowledge and Experience
* A good understanding of health & safety legislation, regulations and best practice
* Experience of creating and delivering training packages
* Experience of investigating accidents and incidents
* Experience and involvement in risk assessment process
* Experience of reacting to and managing change within the workplace
* Experience of problem solving and the ability to make quick decisions in a pressurised environment
* Knowledge of the audit process and experience of involvement in an audit
* Work Experience in a health care setting and knowledge of NHS procedures and structures
* Experience and confidence with a range of patient handling equipment and techniques
