Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Practitioner team (Advanced Practice) at Kingston Hospital. The team is led by an MSK Physiotherapy Consultant and supported by the Orthopaedics department. We work covering clinics at Kingston and off site in local locations. We work closely with our secondary and primary care colleagues and also have a Spinal MDT with the Neurosurgeons at St George's. Although a general specialty role, we are looking for experience with Hand patients, as this role will have a Hand bias predominantly, but in-house training and support will also be provided. The role includes triage and assessment of patients referred for an Orthopaedic opinion, as well as carrying a physiotherapy caseload. The job plan covers the Advanced Practice job plan of 70:30 (clinical:non-clinical) with protected time for four pillar activity. While we are looking for an experienced Advanced Practitioner, we would also welcome Trainee APs who are in their third year of an AP MSc.
Responsibilities
* Work as an autonomous OPP and provide expert orthopaedic assessment, clinical diagnosis, and management in an extended scope role in both the Orthopaedic and Physiotherapy departments.
* Triager orthopaedic referrals and decide whether the patient should have an appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon or an OPP.
* Refer patients from primary and secondary care services onto appropriate specialties according to agreed pathways (e.g., physiotherapy, rheumatology, neurosurgery and pain clinic).
* Act as the physiotherapy lead within a multidisciplinary team, providing specialist advice to other health professionals (e.g., GPs, Orthopaedic, Rheumatology, Neurology and Pain Management Consultants, Specialist Registrars, Senior House Officers, GPs with Special Interest).
* Identify clinical research and audit priorities to drive the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service and orthopaedic department; develop a research and evidence-based practice culture.
* Lead in identifying research and audit needs and contribute to the ESP and musculoskeletal physiotherapy clinical development strategy.
* Provide clinical education and act as a source of specialist knowledge for other physiotherapy team members when dealing with complex cases, including ongoing management advice for such patients.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
* MSc Advanced Practice or equivalent
* Diploma/BSc Degree in Physiotherapy
* State registration with Health Professions Council
* Post-graduate experience and involvement in audit, management, research and service quality issues
* Expert knowledge and experience of assessment and management of a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders, including relevant postgraduate training
* Evidence-based practice and knowledge of psychosocial and cultural factors influencing health/illness behaviours
* Experience working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and across primary and secondary care services

* AP Digital badge
* MACP Membership
* MSc module or qualification in Injection Therapy
* Membership of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP)
* Leadership and management training
* Training of other physiotherapists and students
Skills
Essential
* Ability to present information clearly and logically, in writing and speech, to all levels of staff including management or senior medical staff.
