Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Staff Engineer working within the Regional Engineering UK team, reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, UK. The role involves providing direct technical support to customers, John Crane UK Sales & Aftermarket, and Service teams, ensuring successful order acquisition and ongoing support for OEM and End User customers in the UK and Ireland. Responsibilities include technical selling, troubleshooting, mentoring engineers, supporting sales with technical proposals, and maintaining customer relationships through frequent visits and meetings. Up to 50% national travel, including Ireland, is expected. The engineer will collaborate across departments to resolve complex technical issues and ensure excellent service delivery.
This role can be based at Manchester, Slough, or Aberdeen, working Monday to Friday in a hybrid office environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
* Work closely with customers to develop complex technical proposals and guide less experienced engineers.
* Conduct field troubleshooting, analyze problems, and implement solutions at customer sites.
* Perform product inspections, root cause analysis, and site surveys supporting OEM orders and aftermarket customers.
* Analyze customer specifications to recommend suitable technical solutions, focusing on Vessel seal products.
* Support order progress with technical support and clarifications until delivery.
* Provide technical justification using analysis, calculations, and best practices.
* Make customer-supportive decisions aligned with company objectives, with managerial support.
* Collaborate with the Training and Enablement team to provide technical training.
* Adhere to all business, ethics, health & safety policies, and report safety concerns.
Qualifications
* Engineering degree or equivalent experience, typically 8+ years relevant experience.
* Broad technical knowledge and ability to interact with customers and technical experts.
* Commercial awareness, understanding the impact of design and selection on profitability.
* Proficiency in engineering tools like 2D/3D design (SolidEdge), FEA (CSTEDY/ANSYS), and engineering calculations.
* Practical engineering skills, including product assembly/disassembly and root cause analysis.
* Professional skills: customer orientation, technical writing, communication, project management, teamwork.
