Assistant Project Engineer (Student Placement) – Fixed-term, Full Time (Hybrid). Work arrangement: Full Time (Hybrid). Location: Sheffield. Salary: £23,742 per annum. Closing Date: 02/04/2026 (expired).

Main duties and responsibilities
* Plan and undertake research and development to achieve project aims, with guidance from senior colleagues.
* Continuously monitor progress against project milestones and targets.
* Coordinate with industrial collaborators to agree project deliverables and provide progress updates.
* Liaise with suppliers to ensure equipment is available within set timescales.
* Work with the IMG team to deliver quality solutions.
* Report on project work in written and verbal form to the team and customers.
* Ensure processes align with The AMRC’s quality standards.
* Research novel technology and its application to industry to support new technology implementation in manufacturing.
* Engage with customers to discuss Research & Development activities.
* Adhere to The AMRC’s standard development methodologies.
* Travel as necessary to support project activities.
* Embed ethical considerations and sustainability into working activities where possible.
* Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
Person Specification
We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds. You should be working towards a good honours degree and have an understanding of Computer Vision and digital technology applications in manufacturing. You should demonstrate organisational skills, problem solving, design and hands-on implementation abilities, a practical approach, positive demeanour and clear communication.

* Experience of Computer Vision / Image Processing; AI / Machine Learning / Data Science; Software development (Python, Java, C++/C# or similar); Networks and connectivity — Essential
* Good IT skills (Word, Excel, etc.) — Essential
* Ability to assess priorities and manage deadlines — Essential
* Effective written and verbal communication, report writing and presentations — Essential
* Experience of successful team working with internal and external stakeholders — Essential
* Analytical and problem-solving ability with consideration of longer-term implications — Essential
* Ability to make day-to-day decisions on complex technology — Essential
* Experience of down-selecting technology and materials to meet a project objective — Desirable
* Experience monitoring progress against a budget — Desirable
