Job Purpose
To contribute to research in the Geospatial Data Science Group, working with Professor Ana Basiri and the team to analyze geospatial data using various methods and models. The role involves working on projects like “Missing Data as Useful Data” and exploring issues faced by under-represented groups in (15-minute) cities. The successful candidate will contribute to high-impact research, develop their career, supervise students, and participate in conferences and workshops.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Quantify implications of city designs based on place-based approaches, focusing on under-represented groups such as the elderly and mobility-impaired.
2. Develop mathematical frameworks and visualizations to illustrate city living for the 'average' resident.
3. Collaborate with the team and project partners like Ordnance Survey GB, Google, Microsoft Research, Uber, Meta, and the Alan Turing Institute to co-design inclusive technologies.
4. Plan and conduct research aligned with project goals and strategies.
5. Enhance research profile through publications, societal impact, and reputation building.
6. Present findings at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
7. Support FAIR principles by ensuring data and code are accessible and reproducible.
8. Participate in team meetings and community activities.
9. Supervise and mentor students and junior team members.
10. Engage in outreach, teaching, and administrative activities.
11. Ensure safety in laboratory and experimental settings.
12. Engage in professional development.
For Grade 8, responsibilities include higher independence, leadership, and establishing an independent research track.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential:
* PhD or equivalent in relevant disciplines (statistics, mathematics, computer science, geography).
* Knowledge of data analysis, statistics, urban analytics, and simulation.
* Proficiency in programming languages like Python or R.
Desirable:
* Experience with agent-based modeling, Geo-AI, or spatio-temporal data.
Skills:
* Research creativity and collaboration skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Self-motivated, proactive, and problem-solving abilities.
Experience:
* Postdoctoral experience or equivalent.
* Scientific writing and publication record.

Terms: Salary Grade 7/8, £39,347 - £44,263 / £48,350 - £56,021, full-time, funding for 2 years.
