Consultant OMFS Surgeon with specialist interest in Skin Cancer
Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with a special interest in Skin Cancer. The Directorate provides services across three hospital sites in Worcestershire.
We are actively involved in developing the training programme for students from the Three Counties Medical School in Worcester, which opened in September 2023. The Trust has established relationships with the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to provide a five‑minute presentation on the topic: “How to structure safe and effective delivery of elective oral and maxillofacial services in Worcestershire given the current national pressures on the NHS.”
Responsibilities
* Provide a clinical service in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to patients of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.
* Attend multidisciplinary meetings and work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality clinical care across three sites.
* Support the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely and appropriate patient flow.
* Provide consultation and advisory services to clinical colleagues in the Trust and primary care.
* Attend cross‑county and cross‑site meetings.
* Collaborate with colleagues to meet Trust and departmental objectives.
* Participate in on‑call rota, ensuring emergency and urgent services are available outside normal hours.
* Attend the hospital site for patient reviews when clinically necessary.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in OMFS (expected within six months of interview date) via OCCT or CESR (CP) or CESR or European Community Rights.
* Success in Intercollegiate Specialty Examination or overseas equivalent.
Desirable
* Higher degree.
* ALS / ATLS certification.
* Full GDC registration.
Experience
Essential
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining a UK CCT in OMFS.
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a wide range of problems, both emergency and elective.
* Ability to take full independent responsibility for patient care.
* Expertise in sub‑speciality.
Desirable
* Sub‑specialty fellowship.
Other Requirements
* Understanding of the current NHS environment, reforms, initiatives and issues.
* Able to meet travel requirements, returning to the hospital within 30 minutes when on call.

Teaching Experience
Essential
* Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines.
* Experience teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.
Desirable
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research.
Research Experience
Essential
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
* Awareness of current specialty‑specific developments and initiatives.
Desirable
* Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last five years.
* Evidence of original research undertaken.
