Applications are invited to join the anaesthetic team at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The department is dynamic, forward‑thinking and innovative, delivering anaesthesia across four sites: Royal Cornwall Hospital, St Michael’s Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital and St Austell Surgical Hub.
Job Overview
Consultants in General Anaesthesia (with an interest in POA/perioperative care) will join a team of 64 consultants and 8 SAS doctors.
Responsibilities
* Provide general anaesthesia with an interest in pre‑operative assessment.
* Participate in the general on‑call rota (approx 1 in 30). Provide long day (08:00–20:30) CEPOD or trauma emergency theatre provision on approx 10 occasions per year.
* Maintain highest clinical standards in anaesthesia management.
* Share responsibility for daily management of the anaesthetic department.
* Teach and train junior staff and medical students where applicable.
* Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
* Actively participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit.
* Participate in quality improvement, data analysis and service development.
* Attend care group and directorate business, operational and governance meetings as appropriate.
* Fulfil duties of the weekly timetable, including any out‑of‑hours responsibilities.
* Deliver pre‑operative assessment and cardiopulmonary exercise testing sessions, and contribute to development of digital peri‑operative medicine (POM) pathways.
