Job Title: Lead Music Production Teacher

Reporting To: Head of Education & Operations / Head of College

Contract: 0.8 FTE (4 days per week), Term Time Only

Working Pattern: Approximately 40 working weeks per academic year, plus attendance at agreed INSET, staff training and key college events

Salary: £35,000 per annum, pro rata to 0.8 FTE (4 days per week)

Location: Islington


STAFFING RESPONSIBILITIES: Academic leadership of the Music Production pathway, including curriculum leadership, quality assurance and support of Music Production staff, practitioners and visiting professionals.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: The Lead Music Production Teacher will provide outstanding teaching, learning and curriculum leadership across SoundSkool's Music Production provision.

The candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality Music Production teaching to learners aged 16-18 studying RSL qualifications, while also leading curriculum planning, quality assurance, internal verification and the ongoing development of the Music Production pathway.

Working closely with the Head of College and Head of Education & Operations, the Lead Music Production Teacher will ensure that SoundSkool's curriculum remains industry relevant, engaging and ambitious, enabling students to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence required to progress into higher education, employment and the creative industries.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Teaching & Learning

• Plan and deliver outstanding Music Production lessons across Level 3 programmes.

• Deliver engaging, industry-relevant teaching using current production techniques, software and equipment.

• Create and maintain high-quality lesson plans, schemes of work and learning resources.

• Differentiate learning effectively to meet individual learner needs, including students with SEND and EHCPs.

• Maintain high expectations for attendance, punctuality, behaviour and achievement.

• Embed English, mathematics, employability and wider industry skills within learning where appropriate.

• Monitor learner progress and implement interventions where required.

• Assess, mark and provide timely developmental feedback on student work in accordance with SoundSkool and awarding body requirements.

• Maintain accurate assessment records, learner tracking information and progress monitoring documentation.

• Ensure assessment decisions are valid, reliable and consistent with awarding body standards and internal quality assurance processes.

• Support learners to meet submission deadlines, qualification requirements and individual targets.

• Complete all associated administrative duties relating to teaching, assessment, reporting and student progress.


Curriculum Leadership

• Lead the development of the Music Production curriculum across all programmes.

• Structure units, modules and learning sequences to ensure clear progression and coherence.

• Develop and review schemes of work, lesson resources and assessment materials.

• Ensure curriculum content remains current, industry relevant and aligned with RSL requirements.

• Work with the Head of College and Head of Education & Operations to support curriculum planning and improvement.


Quality Assurance & Internal Verification

• Lead Internal Verification activities within the Music Production pathway in accordance with SoundSkool and awarding body requirements.

• Verify assignment briefs, assessment plans and assessment decisions to ensure validity, reliability and consistency.

• Monitor the quality and consistency of assessment, marking and feedback across Music Production units.

• Support standardisation activities and contribute to the development of consistent assessment practices across the college.

• Maintain accurate, up-to-date assessment, verification and quality assurance records.

• Ensure compliance with awarding body regulations, policies, procedures and submission requirements.

• Contribute to internal audits, moderation activities, external quality assurance visits and awarding body reviews.

• Identify areas for improvement and implement actions to enhance teaching, learning, assessment and student outcomes.

• Work collaboratively with the Head of College and Head of Education to support quality improvement planning and curriculum development.

• Support quality assurance activities across the wider curriculum where appropriate.

• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, high standards and accountability across the Music Production pathway.


Student Progress & Tutorial Responsibilities

• Act as Personal Tutor for an allocated group of students.

• Deliver tutorials and support students to set and review targets.

• Maintain Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) and learner records.

• Monitor attendance, punctuality, progress and wellbeing.

• Prepare reports, progress reviews and student evaluations.

• Attend parent/carer meetings and review meetings where required.

Leadership & College Contribution

• Support and mentor Music Production staff and visiting practitioners.

• Lead on major Music Production projects including the annual SoundSkool Album.

• Contribute to enrichment activities, showcases, open evenings, auditions and college events.

• Support student recruitment, interviews and auditions.

• Actively contribute to college improvement planning and self-assessment activities.

• Undertake any reasonable duties requested by the Head of College, Head of Education & Operations or CEO.


Safeguarding & Compliance

• Safeguard and promote the welfare of all students.

• Maintain a strong understanding of safeguarding, Prevent, KCSIE and wider statutory responsibilities.

• Report safeguarding concerns immediately through the appropriate procedures.

• Complete all mandatory training required for the role.

• Support the college's inclusive ethos and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

• Maintain compliance with all college policies and procedures.


PERSON SPECIFICATION


ESSENTIAL:

Qualifications

• Undergraduate Degree or equivalent relevant qualification.

• Teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training or equivalent) or willingness to work towards one.

• Enhanced DBS clearance suitable for working with young people.

Experience

• Experience teaching Music Production within further education, post-16 education or a similar setting.

• Experience delivering accredited music qualifications.

• Experience developing schemes of work and curriculum resources.

• Experience assessing student work and providing developmental feedback.

• Experience supporting student achievement and progression.

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced knowledge of Logic Pro.

• Strong knowledge of contemporary music production techniques.

• Understanding of recording, mixing and mastering processes.

• Excellent classroom management skills.

• Strong organisational and administrative skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to analyse learner progress data and implement interventions.

• Strong digital skills including Google Workspace and learning technologies.

Leadership

• Ability to lead curriculum development projects.

• Ability to support and guide colleagues professionally.

• Strong quality assurance awareness.

• Commitment to maintaining high standards across teaching, learning and assessment.


DESIRABLE:

• Experience delivering RSL qualifications.

• Internal Verifier qualification or relevant quality assurance experience.

• Experience leading curriculum areas or projects.

• Experience working with learners with SEND and EHCPs.

• Experience working within specialist creative education settings.
