Role Overview
This role is responsible for planning the tender review and planning for orders from customer order receipt to delivery. It is a critical role within IMI Thompson Valves and is responsible for monitoring and ensuring that project costs are maintained within budget. The post holder will evaluate, as part of the tender review process, the technical and commercial elements of a sales enquiry to determine the need for project involvement and to produce project plans for contracts/orders where they are the main point of contact for both the business and customer.
Responsibilities
* Evaluate all technical and commercial elements of a sales enquiry; develop a project plan.
* Produce proposals arising from sales team activities, including estimates of design and manufacturing time.
* Lead in identifying and managing risks throughout the quotation process and liaise with colleagues to perform risk mitigation tasks.
* Undertake and produce reports on margin analysis against planned delivery.
* Occasionally accompany the sales team or deliver proposal presentations and contract reviews at the customer’s site (including international travel).
* Act as the customer interface for the duration of a project/order/contract, providing regular status reports (some contractual) and addressing issues with the project/order/contract.
* Participate in customer visits/quality reviews to final product acceptance.
* Develop and maintain key account management relationships with customers.
* Ensure that customer orders/quotations are reviewed for export compliance.
* Deliver a written weekly status report on projects.
* Produce project plans, regularly updated and issued to the team to meet the delivery schedule.
* Lead regular project meetings, record minutes, ensure actions are completed and escalate if delivery is not maintained.
* Maintain a robust process tracking project margin throughout execution, and develop mitigation plans with functional leaders as needed.
* Use ERP to maintain project status and costs and support production planning.
* Work with Design and Sales teams to provide technical assistance to increase sales revenues.
* Prioritize activities in the defined pre-production route to release to manufacture.
* Maintain customer delivery status and communicate with customers as necessary.
* Develop weekly project progress reports detailing timeliness, margin status, cost to complete and risks.
* Receive, translate and resolve technical enquiries with engineering support.
* Perform other duties commensurate with the post as required.
Qualifications and competencies
* Qualified to HNC or bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline. This academic knowledge may have been applied in roles including sales, projects or design.
* Demonstrable experience in Project Management; Analysis; Design Skills; Manufacturing Methods and Procedures; Process Improvement; Technical Understanding; Documentation Skills; Supervision; CAD/CAM Design.
* Excellent technical expertise with experience of production processes and product quality requirements including welding, NDT and component manufacture.
* Experience producing estimates, proposals, bids or tenders for a precision engineering company or similar.
* Effective communication skills with emphasis on engagement, influencing and presentations.
* Experience developing relationships to generate new and future business.
* Strong commercial acumen, overseeing production proposals and client relationships.
* Desire to progress and succeed.
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
* Competence in IT (including Microsoft packages) and experience using an ERP system.
* High attention to detail.
* Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
