Job overview

Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Medway Community Healthcare. Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

The Named Nurse / Named Professional for Safeguarding Adults within Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT) has a key role in developing and embedding safeguarding leadership and good professional practice within all sections of the organisation, as well as providing advanced advice and support to health colleagues and partner professionals.

The postholder, therefore, requires specific expertise in adults’ health needs, abuse and neglect and local arrangements for safeguarding and protecting adults at risk giving consideration to the Think Family approach.

In agreement with the Assistant Director of Safeguarding, the post holder will lead on the development, co-ordination and monitoring of key areas within the safeguarding service.

Main duties of the job

1. Leadership within the safeguarding service
2. Contributing to the implementation of safeguarding strategic plans
3. Supporting monitoring and provision of assurance for a range of quality standards
4. Provide expert knowledge and advice of theoretical frameworks of safeguarding supervision, adult abuse and neglect including impact on adults at risk and their families/carers.
5. Provide expert advice on relevant legislation MCA, DoLS, LPS and Prevent).
6. You will demonstrate a strong focus on quality of the service user experience in the way services are designed and delivered with clear processes in place for addressing any risks or issues which are identified as impacting on this

It is important to us that all our staff are aligned to our Values and in particular the behaviours we expect from KCHFT managers. With this in mind as part of the selection process for this position you will be asked to complete two other activities in addition to the competency-based interview that you will invited to. This extended selection process is designed to assess your management style and the specific details of the exercises will be given if you are successfully shortlisted. The provisional date of the selection event is 27th May 2026, although this may be subject to change.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

7. Level 6 Degree or equivalent qualification in relevant subject Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Podiatry.
8. To be able to demonstrate continuing professional development to a masters level or equivalent.
9. You will be a registered health care professional

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

10. You will need to be able to be able to use IT systems and databases.
11. You will need to have an awareness of developments within the NHS would as well as an understanding of National Service Frameworks and NICE guidance. You will also need to be able to interpret and apply policies.
12. You will have knowledge of up to date clinical practice by using up- to- date skills and adhering to evidence-based procedures and clinical effectiveness frameworks. You will fully understand the role and remit of a health care worker

Working Environment

Essential criteria

13. A full, valid UK driving licence and the ability to travel independently are essential for this role. Should you require workplace adjustments under the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to supporting you to meet the mobility requirements of the role wherever possible.
