EXAMS ASSISTANT / LEAD INVIGILATOR
Salary: Scale 4 Pt 7-8 (£8, £8, actual salary per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
Start Date: December 2025
Hours: 5 hours per week (to be worked on Fridays) for 39 weeks per year
In addition, the successful applicant will be required to work full time (37 hours)
per week during the following exam periods:
2 weeks in January and February (4 weeks)
1 week in April
6 weeks in May/June
Plus, additional hours as required in August on results days and during post result period.
Candidates able to offer slightly fewer hours or a variation of the hours listed above would be considered. This can be discussed at interview.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Examinations Assistant / Lead Invigilator
SCALE: Scale 4
PURPOSE OF JOB: To assist the Examinations Manager in the administration and organisation of all aspects of External and Internal Examinations.
To organise and supervise the invigilation of all public and mock examinations held in the school in accordance with the Joint Council of Qualifications (JCQ) Regulations.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Examinations Manager / Deputy Headteacher (Curriculum) / Headteacher
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examinations Assistant
* Preparing for Examinations, i.e. checking examination papers and stationery are correct, amending seating plans, candidate numbers and desk labels and overseeing of setting up rooms
* Liaising with both internal and external invigilators ensuring that they are fully aware of exam procedures
* Assist with checking and packaging up of exam papers and sending off to Exam Boards
* Ensuring school policies regarding charging for review of marking applications are followed
* Processing and maintaining all Review of Marking/Copy Scripts from GCE & GCSE Results
* Arrange any refunds due for this service with Finance
Lead Invigilator
* Responsibility for ensuring that public examinations are conducted in accordance with the Joint Council of Qualifications (JCQ) Regulations and school regulations
* Taking charge and responsibility for the running and administration of an exam room when required
* Preparing the examination environment with appropriate notices and security ensuring JCQ regulations
* Planning for, allocating and advising invigilators of their duties and the dates that they are required to work
* Supervising the work of Assistant Invigilators
* Responsibility for the collection of papers from secure storage and the management of external examination papers before and during the examination sessions
* Responsibility for the supervision of all candidates and their adherence to regulations throughout the examination period
* Overseeing the implementation of Access arrangements for students
* Liaising with the Examinations Manager on all matters relating to public examinations
* Assisting the Examinations Manager with administrative tasks
* Maintain complete confidentiality with all matters relating to the examinations and the school
General:
* To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.
