About the Role

Are you looking for a role that will put you at the heart of improving outcomes for some of our most vulnerable children and young people with additional educational needs? The position of Specialist Inclusion Assistant will be perfect for someone who enjoys the challenges and rewards which come with successfully engaging pupils with their learning.

We are looking for a creative and confident person to join our service, working alongside teachers and support staff in mainstream settings to promote the successful inclusion of pupils with a range of additional needs identified in the SEND Code of Practice. These may include sensory, cognition and learning, communication and interaction, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, which can create barriers to learning and achievement. You will help plan and implement practical strategies to "close the gap" and promote inclusion.

Your work will be guided by a Specialist Teacher for Inclusive Practice (STIP) planning, delivering, and evaluating packages of support and modelling good practice. This will include spending the majority of your week providing support in schools, directly with pupils and school staff.

The STIP teams work in all quadrants of Surrey, both locally in our teams and as part of a highly successful countywide service.

Your Application

In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application will clearly evidence the following skills and align with :

12. At least five years recent experience of supporting and including pupils with additional needs in mainstream schools to access the curriculum and social opportunities
13. Recent experience of planning and delivering interventions to support pupils recognised within the SEND Code of Practice, particularly in relation to sensory, SEMH, communication and interaction and cognition and learning needs
14. Recent school experience of leading, or working as part of, a team to support pupil progress, demonstrating the importance of positive working relationships
15. Evidence of positive and effective communication with learners and colleagues
16. Evidence of appropriate continued professional development to support learners with additional needs

To apply, we request that you submit a CV and you will be asked the following 4 questions:

17. Please tell us what interests you about the Specialist Inclusion Assistant role, and how do your skills and experience make you a good fit for our team?
18. Please describe a time when you successfully supported a pupil with additional needs to access learning. What strategies did you use, and what was the outcome?
19. Please give an example of an intervention you have planned and delivered for a pupil with needs identified in the SEND Code of Practice. How did you measure its effectiveness?
20. Please describe a situation where you worked as part of a team to support pupil progress. How did you build positive relationships with colleagues and contribute to shared goals?

Surrey has both urban and rural areas and candidates will be expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel across a wide geographical area. Reasonable adjustments where needed will be made for successful applicants who have a disability or long term health condition to enable them to fulfil the requirements of the job.

Before submitting your application, we recommend you read the job description & to get an insight into working at Surrey.
