Our client, a key player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a talented Manufacturing Engineer to join their Operations team in Sunbury on Thames, SRY. This is a permanent role within the Air Technology business unit, aimed at providing manufacturing engineering expertise to support both existing and new products, and to drive forward strategic Lean initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaborate with manufacturing cell leaders, the lean co-ordinator, and design engineering to enhance process efficiencies
* Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Routings, and Visual Factory displays
* Create and maintain routings within the MRP system
* Implement lean manufacturing methods such as one-piece flow lines and visual factory to reduce rework/scrap, throughput times, and work in progress
* Utilise basic improvement tools such as 5S, 7 Wastes, Visual Management, and Standardised Work to support balanced assembly lines
* Support layout changes and involve facilities and maintenance teams in the process
* Record and analyse production data to focus on key issues and support manufacturing cells
* Initiate and lead improvement projects and capital expenditure (CAPEX) to facilitate new process and product introductions
* Work with Engineering on product documentation modifications and parts obsolescence
* Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to ensure customer schedule adherence
* Lead teams to develop process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and implement changes
* Manage new product introductions and legacy product manufacturing through all stages of the product life cycle
* Mentor cell leaders to enhance methods of manufacturing assembly and testing
Job Requirements:
* Proven experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role
* Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and implementing standard work processes
* Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and substantial experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
* Proficient in problem-solving techniques, including 5 Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, and 8D analysis
* Proven track record of generating and maintaining process maps, PFMEAs, and control plans
* Excellent time management skills with a history of planning and managing complex, long-term projects
* Experience in the aerospace manufacturing or a closely related industry
* Methodical, logical approach with strong attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset
* Team player with the ability to work in a concurrent engineering team
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
* Ability to present and communicate effectively to small groups
* Self-motivated individual with strong leadership qualities and the ability to handle pressure
* Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and process control techniques
