Overview
The MBU is a new structure within Tokamak Energy. We aim to usher in the HTS era.
As a manufacturing process engineer, you will develop, implement, and improve manufacturing processes within MBU, focusing on safety, quality, and repeatability. This involves working closely with R&D, technical, design, safety, and quality teams to achieve a robust, reliable, and scalable manufacturing model.
Responsibilities
1. Develop new HTS coil manufacturing and assembly processes.
2. Improve existing manufacturing processes to accommodate both custom and scalable production.
3. Collaborate with the R&D team to transition innovations into production-ready processes.
4. Participate in the design and build of HTS coil manufacturing tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
5. Oversee and assess new and existing processes and workflows.
6. Perform risk assessments to ensure manufacturing processes meet company EHS requirements.
7. Create, update, and maintain manufacturing documentation.
8. Assess compliance with quality standards and implement quality control plans.
Requirements
1. Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or appropriate experience with a proven track record in manufacturing process development.
2. Experience in manufacturing tooling design, build, and commissioning.
3. Ability to write manufacturing process documentation (work instructions, process flows, route cards, control plans, etc.).
4. Experience working with superconducting materials and coil winding tooling is desirable.
5. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to report project status, issues, and plans effectively.
6. Adaptable and resilient, capable of dealing with ambiguity.
7. Proactive, energetic, and delivery-focused with good problem-solving skills.

Hazard-specific / Safety-critical duties
This role involves hazards or safety-critical activities, requiring pre-employment health screening:
* Work in hot or cold environments.
* Driving on company business.
* Regular manual handling.
* Working with cryogenic fluids, including liquid nitrogen.
* Working near equipment producing high magnetic fields.
* Handling materials regulated under substances hazardous to health regulations (COSHH).
