Overview

Support Through Sport CIO is seeking an experienced, passionate and highly organised individual to lead our innovative Detached Youth Work service across Nottinghamshire. The Senior Targeted Practitioner will lead a team of four Targeted Youth Practitioners (Detached Youth Work) and support programme delivery across identified Nottinghamshire communities. The role combines frontline detached youth work practice with leadership responsibilities, including supervision, safeguarding follow-up, partnership building, and programme management support to the East Midlands Regional Manager. You will ensure impactful and effective programme delivery which aligns to the programme aims and objectives as well as Support Through Sport's policies and procedures. Delivering to a bespoke detached youth work methodology and theory of change, you will ensure and maintain excellent operational standards to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and young people.

You will ensure high-quality delivery, capture outcomes through Upshot, and work with local agencies to address key issues affecting young people. Flexibility is essential, with sessions and meetings often taking place during evenings, weekends, and community events.


Responsibilities

* Deliver detached youth work sessions in targeted communities, building trusting relationships with young people and ensuring high-quality engagement.
* Provide leadership in safeguarding, ensuring follow-up on concerns and supporting colleagues to manage risk effectively.
* Plan and oversee programmes to meet funder specifications, capturing outcomes and impact through Upshot and other monitoring systems.
* Support the East Midlands Regional Manager with programme management, reporting, and delivery oversight.
* Take a proactive approach to identifying local issues and emerging themes, ensuring the team responds appropriately and effectively.
* Build and maintain strong partnerships with schools, police, social care, and community organisations through a multi-agency approach.
* Attend key stakeholder and partnership meetings, representing the organisation professionally and providing updates on delivery.
* Foster collaboration with local agencies to strengthen provision and create opportunities for young people.
* Promote youth participation and empowerment, encouraging young people to take part in shaping services that affect them.
* Uphold and deliver to the highest youth work standards, in line with Support Through Sport’s framework, the NYA, and Federation of Detached Youth Work.
* Ensure administrative responsibilities are completed, including accurate record-keeping, data entry, and reporting.
* Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, to meet young people where they are and support community needs.


Qualifications and Essential Attributes

* Experience working with children and young people (10–17 years) in community settings
* Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, with experience responding to and escalating concerns
* Proven experience supervising or leading staff or volunteers in a youth work, education, or community setting
* Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders
* Strong knowledge of violence affecting young people, exploitation, and early intervention approaches
* Experience of multi-agency working and attending safeguarding and strategy meetings
* Ability to use case management systems and produce accurate reports and data
* Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in practice and leadership
* Flexible working hours including evenings, weekends and school holidays
* Strong youth engagement and relationship-building skills
* Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across Nottinghamshire
* Qualification in youth work, education, or a related field (JNC strongly desired)
* Experience of staff training, coaching, or professional development
* Knowledge of local referral pathways and support services across Nottinghamshire
* Experience working in detached youth work and within community settings
* Training in conflict resolution, mental health first aid and trauma-informed practice
* Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
* Self-motivated with a positive attitude
* Passionate about making a difference for young people and communities
* Confident in delivering a range of sports and physical activities


Key Information

* Reporting To: East Midlands Regional Manager
* Contract: Part Time, 6 month probationary period
* Salary: £28,000 - £31,000pa (pro-rata 15hrs/week: £11,200 - £12,400pa), depending on skills and experience
* Location: Nottinghamshire - Warsop & Sutton-In-Ashfield (Nottingham Office)
