We have an exciting opportunity to join our Get to Zero Climate Change) team in a Climate Education Officer role on fixed-term basis. The Get to Zero Action Plan (the Council’s Climate Change Plan until 20245) sets out actions for the Education Department to work with Environment Department and others to review the potential for better integration of climate change in support of the Learning for Sustainability (LfS) Target 2030 Action Plan, considering 'Curriculum'; 'Culture'; 'Community'; and 'Campus'.
This new role will lead the co-ordination of this action and build the capacity within the Education Department to achieve the Curriculum for Excellence framework target for 2030 to “to ensure that all children and young people can learn within a ‘sustainable education setting’ by the end of this decade”. The role will be crucial in supporting the new Get to Zero Action Plan that will deliver reductions in carbon emissions in both the Council’s operations and across the community.
The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience of working with teachers, pupils and Education colleagues within local government, as well as having a firm understanding of the policy and action areas related to climate change.
Depending upon the needs of the service, staff in Hybrid roles will typically work from home for up to 40-60% of the time where the needs of the service can still be met.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. It is an offence therefore to apply if you are barred from working with children. In addition to this, if you have lived or worked in any country outside the UK in the past 10 years, there may be a requirement for an overseas police check.
