Applications are invited from suitably qualified individuals for the post of Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haemato-Oncology within the Haematology Department, Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow. The Senior Specialist BMS will provide leadership and support for the Stem Cell Processing Laboratory services.

The stem cell processing service supports the regional autologous transplant service, the national allogeneic transplant service and the national CAR-T service (adult and paediatric services). The laboratory is responsible for the receipt, testing, processing, storage and distribution of haemopoietic progenitor cell and mature cell products.

The post holder will have a key role in the oversight and continuing development of the stem cell processing services, working with the team to ensure continued delivery of a high standard of safe services. They will as part of the management team to ensure that the laboratory continues to meet the standards of UKAS and JACIE and will work with the Human Tissue Authority (HTA) Designated Individual to ensure compliance with all legislative requirements.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday Friday 0900 -1700. The post holder will be required to work flexibly according to the needs of the department, but this does not involve participation in the 24 hour working arrangement of the Haematology Department.

Potential Candidates Must Have The Following Qualifications


* BSc Honours Degree that meets the requirements of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
* Appropriate State Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council is mandatory.
* Must possess either an MSc or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in a relevant subject
* A management qualification (e.g. Diploma) or equivalent management training would be desirable
* Significant experience of working in a stem cell processing laboratory is highly desirable but it is recognised that the specialist nature of the job means that a degree of professional development may be required
