Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Adult Acquired Conditions)
Join NHS Scotland as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders. This is a fixed‑term contract (29.6 hours per week for one year, or full‑time 41 weeks) based at Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway, Lewis.
Overview
Providing specialist care across acute and community settings, including dysphagia management and aphasia rehabilitation. You will also deliver AAC interventions for patients with progressive neurological conditions.
Role Details
* Band: 7
* Salary: £50,861 - £59,159 per annum (pro rata)
* Allowance: Distant Islands Allowance £1,406 (pro rata)
* Contract: Fixed term, 29.6 hours/week for 12 months
* Location: Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway, Lewis
Responsibilities
* Deliver specialist speech, language and swallow services to adults with acquired conditions.
* Assess, plan and implement individualized therapy plans for dysphagia and aphasia.
* Provide specialist AAC interventions for progressive neurological disorders.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary team across acute and community settings.
* Carry out clinical supervision and mentorship where required.
* Participate in Videofluoroscopy and related assessments.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Speech and Language Therapist.
* Extensive experience managing adult dysphagia caseloads and independent management of neuro‑dysphagia.
* Evidence of delivering aphasia rehabilitation and AAC interventions.
* Eligibility to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme).
* Experience in a rural or remote setting would be an asset.
