Job Description

* Safety Leadership:
o Take personal responsibility for your own safety through hazard identification and mitigation.
o Ensure practices/processes are safely executed.
o Communicate safety concerns and model safe behaviors.
* Project Execution:
o Utilize BIW's business operating system (BOS) to execute work and communicate progress daily.
o Accomplish audits of the Quality Management System and work with departments to implement corrective actions.
o Develop and maintain documents that govern the quality management system.
* Quality Management:
o Participate in the multitude of roles that quality assurance takes to ensure products meet the customers' requirements. This could be, but not limited to, engineering and manufacturing product audits, equipment care and protection audits, vendor material inspections, vendor quality management system audits, calibration lab audits as well as others.
o Collect and review quality data for trends, patterns, anomalies and make recommendations for corrective actions in various departmental processes (Engineering, Manufacturing etc.).
o Ensure that performance and quality products conform to established company and regulatory standards.
* Training and Development:
o Develop and implement work instructions and procedures that govern the work done by the Quality team.
o Take an active role in your development by progressing through the different Quality Team competencies.
o Work with your leadership team to take advantage of training opportunities for personal and professional growth.
* Team Collaboration and Communication:
o Work with various stakeholders in efforts to identify causes of rework and implement corrections to eliminate it.
o Lead stakeholder teams to resolve identified quality issues.
o Report to leadership the identified quality issues and corrective actions taken to resolve the issues.
* Continuous Improvement:
o Identify opportunity for improvement in the QMS and in our daily processes and lead efforts to complete corrective actions to take advantage of those opportunities.
o Utilize the A3 methodology and BIW's BOS to continually improve quality and results.


Required Education/Training

* Q/A Engineer II (C Level): 2-4 years of experience required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering or similar. Demonstrated employment background in Quality Administration, Trades, Ship-board Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Project Engineering/ Management role will be additionally.
* Q/A Engineer III (D Level): 5+ years of experience required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience in IT, Trades, Planning, Design, Marine Industry, or in a Supervisory Role in Trades Dept. Ability to meet Job description with respect to the IT elements is required.
* BIW Apprentice graduate.


Required Experience

* Background in Quality Assurance or Control operating in regulated industry such as aerospace/defense, pharmaceutical, food or scientific environments required.
* Practical Experience with ISO9001 or similar system in ship-building or other highly regulated industry such as those stated previously.
* Demonstrated experience operating and participating in independent audit for certification of known Quality standard (ISO ).
* Working knowledge of planning systems such as MACPAC, and shop methods and construction processes.
* Experience in direct dealings with U.S. Navy Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SOSB) Quality Assurance (QAS) a plus.
* Ability to effectively interface with suppliers, customers, and internal divisions required.
* High proficiency in MS Office Products with demonstrated mid-to-high level experience in MS Excel, Access, Project, and Visio strongly.
* Experience with direct dealing with Navy or other branches of the Department of Defense (DoD) in either commercial or military role, a plus.
* Experience in any marine/shipboard assignments, commercial or military, a plus.
* Ability to exercise technical writing skills in development and revision of varied procedures.
* Ability to travel for supplier audits and planning yard support if needed.
