The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver an efficient, safe and comprehensive pharmaceutical service within the prison pharmacy departments. Under the guidance of the Lead Technician and Pharmacy Manager, you will contribute to the smooth running of daily operations while maintaining high professional and clinical standards.In this varied role, you will undertake a range of responsibilities including accurate labelling and dispensing of medications, performing accredited accuracy checks, and supporting effective stock rotation, storage and inventory control. You will also be expected to respond to dispensary queries in a professional and timely manner, helping to ensure the continuity and quality of pharmaceutical care for the prison population.This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated pharmacy technician who is committed to accuracy, teamwork and patient-focused service delivery in a unique and rewarding healthcare environment.Main ResponsibilitiesEnsure the provision of a legal, safe and high-quality pharmaceutical service in line with national and local policies, HCRG Care Group Medicines Policy, and required security standards.Support medicines management and optimisation strategies across the Norfolk Prisons, including cost-effective prescribing and medication budget management.Perform final accuracy checks on prescriptions previously clinically screened by a pharmacist.Maintain accurate patient medication records, support prescription re-ordering, medicines reconciliation, wing-based services, and undertake clinical audits or incident investigations as required.Contribute to pharmacy-based clinics and identify opportunities to develop and improve technical services.Support the efficient daily running of the dispensary, ensuring compliance with SOPs, good stock control, expiry date checks, and safe re-issue of returned medicines.Maintain accurate controlled drug records and ensure secure handling and transport of medicines within the prison.Manage computer records, data entry and routine technical or administrative queries.Uphold high standards of cleanliness, safety, and security at all times.Participate in the delivery of medicines-related training for healthcare staff and support implementation of medicines policies, guidelines and homely remedies use.Communicate effectively with healthcare staff, senior management, prescribers and external agencies while maintaining patient confidentiality. Work directly with prisoners, including individuals with complex mental health and substance misuse needs.Ideal CandidateBTEC or NVQ level 3 in pharmaceutical sciences or equivalentRegistered with the GPhCKnowledge of legislation and good practice in relation to medicinesExperience of stock controlAbility to monitor and assist in management of medication budgetExperience of working in a multidisciplinary teamDemonstrate initiativeGood interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with clinicians, healthcare professionals and patientsAbility to manage own workload and meet objectives and targetsAbility to motivate self and othersAbility to perform in a challenging environmentAbility to respond in a calm manner in a crisisGood attendance record and willingness to participate in weekend/bank holiday rotaAbout the CompanyWe change lives by transforming health and care.
