Your New RoleAs a Highway Maintenance Inspector, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety and condition of the highway network. You will be responsible for responding to urgent public enquiries, carrying out inspections, assessing defects, and initiating appropriate work. You will also complete minor repairs during inspections where possible.This is a frontline role, requiring professional engagement with the public, local groups, and stakeholders. You will work closely with operational teams to ensure that emergency defects are made safe quickly and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of reported defects and raise work orders as required.
Assess and categorise defects in line with relevant safety standards and risk criteria.
Respond to emergency or urgent situations on the network.
Carry out minor repairs during inspections where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with operational teams to resolve issues promptly.
Engage professionally with customers, residents, and stakeholders.
Maintain accurate records using IT systems and follow all reporting processes.
Follow Health & Safety procedures and promote safe working practices.
Participate in emergency standby and winter maintenance rotas
What You'll Need to Succeed
Experience within highways maintenance or a related field.
Lantra Highway Safety Inspector training (or willingness to undertake training).
Traffic management experience or qualifications (desirable).
Strong communication and customer‑facing skills.
Ability to prioritise tasks, analyse information and resolve problems.
Confident IT user with good organisational and record‑keeping skills.
Self‑motivated, flexible, and able to work independently.
Commitment to safe working and attention to detail.
Ability to represent the service professionally in the community.
