Overview

The post holder will support the development and delivery of a comprehensive and highly specialist neurodiversity assessment and diagnostic service to children and young people. You will assess the need for, develop and implement evidence-based speech and language therapy interventions to children and young people with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties. You will provide highly specialist second opinions to other speech and language therapists / external professionals and support in the training and development of colleagues within the team. You will be responsible for developing existing care pathways for area of clinical specialism. You will be supported by senior team managers, who hold clinical and strategic lead responsibility for the SLT service. You will understand and meet professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014 including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in childrens Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You will liaise with education settings and parents/carers, providing advice and support. You will also liaise with colleagues in health, education, social care and the voluntary sector as required.


Responsibilities

* To demonstrate highly specialist assessment and intervention (both 1:1 and group) for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
* To manage complex and highly specialist caseload independently and plan the workload of others, offering highly specialist support and second opinions to SLT colleagues.
* To make highly specialist clinical decisions in assessment of complex cases.
* To work in partnership with parents /carers, young people and education staff, to support them to develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence with regards to their communication needs.
* To take a clinical specialist role in the development of local clinical guidelines informed by evidence for children and young people with Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
* To demonstrate knowledge of, and adhere to RCSLT Professional, National and Local Clinical Guidelines with particular reference to autism and social communication difficulties and SLCN.
* To develop and deliver specialist training to parents, young people and professionals in specialist area.
* To work within infection control and health and safety guidelines in order to deal appropriately with conditions related to client contact as they arise: for example exposure to body fluids, infectious conditions.
* To contribute to SLT service and profession wide initiatives. To deputise for the clinical team lead as required.
