Job Description Machinist Bristol Works An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Machinist to join the ShadowWorks team within Defence in Bristol. As a machinist within the team you will play a key part in manufacturing parts and tooling across the Defence portfolio and across the wider R-R portfolio of projects and products to meet our customers’ requirements. This will be predominantly one off parts for development type projects, although flight parts for production will occasionally also be worked. We are looking for a competent CNC machinist in both turning and 5 axis milling including setting as well as operating. Manual turning and milling machining competence is also required. What you will be doing: Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions and troubleshooting malfunctions. Mount working devices, parts, machine components and cutting tools correctly, according to instructions, specifications and quality standards & Check whether finished components meet quality standards. Ensure all tools are maintained and are in calibration and find out why machines are not at peak performance, fixing errors and contributing to continuous improvement. Complete relevant documentation (quality, operation data sheets, maintenance, reports, etc.) & Work with ME and designers to determine best solutions for manufacturability. Who we are looking for: You will have a completed a recognised Engineering apprenticeship and hold a relevant NVQ level 3 qualification or equivalent. Previous Machining experience- set tooling, cutting, gauges and into the machining cycle. Mechanical and Technical Skills- an understanding of CAD/ CAM technology, ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, have a good awareness of HS&E (health, safety and environment) requirements and process improvements. Good maths, attention to detail and problem-solving skills & the ability to programme in Mazatrol and OSP (both conversational programming languages) would be highly desirable.
