Consultant Surgeon with an interest in Upper GI Disease

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Surgeon with an interest in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery based at University Hospital Wishaw.
The successful applicant will join a busy Surgical Unit consisting of 6 Colorectal Surgeons, 5 Upper GI Consultants, and 4 Breast Surgeons, participating in a 1:11 on-call rota.
Wishaw is the regional centre for specialist UGI surgical services, including oesophago-gastric cancer resections, bariatric surgery, and hiatal/biliary surgery. The role emphasizes providing laparoscopic and endoscopic interventions for both malignant and benign diseases, requiring skills in therapeutic UGI endoscopy and endoscopic palliation of UGI cancer. While a background in resectional surgery is preferred, candidates with subspecialty interests in other aspects of UGI surgery are also encouraged to apply.
This busy District General Hospital was the first in NHS Lanarkshire to offer laparoscopic colorectal resection to all patients. Interests include Sacral Nerve stimulation, complex inflammatory Bowel Disease, laparoscopic ventral rectopexy, and endoscopic management of complex polyps, including the largest ESD practice in the West of Scotland. The hospital hosts weekly CRC MDT, complex polyp MDT, and monthly Pelvic Floor and IBD MDT meetings. It also serves as the centre for the NHS Lanarkshire Bowel Screening Programme pre-assessment service.
Job Details
The position is offered as a full-time post on a 10 PA basis, subject to final job plan approval. Applications from those wishing to work part-time will be considered. Up to 2 EPA’s may be available for additional clinical activity if working full-time.
