People we support and qualities
Some of the people we support (PWS) have epilepsy, learning disabilities, mental health conditions, Autism (Fragile-X), Down syndrome and Cerebral palsy. They may lack motivation to undertake tasks they have expressed an interest in doing, so the candidate should have experience and an upbeat personality to encourage the PWS. There can be challenging behaviour in some of our services; candidates with experience in managing challenging behaviour are preferred. Training for challenging behaviour will be provided for successful candidates.
Challenging behaviour
There can be challenging behaviour, from verbal to physical challenges. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in this area. Extensive challenging behaviour training will be provided for successful candidates.
Logistics and driving
As we are close to Aberdeen, local recruitment is challenging and non-driving staff may find it difficult to commute or be available for the required shift patterns. This post is Driver(s) preferred (if outside Inverurie). Must have a current valid driving licence and a car, as some applicants have stated they are drivers but do not have a car. Note: public transport does not align with the shifts we have; we do not accept assurances of getting here by public transport.
