Overview
An experienced B6 Occupational Therapist is needed to join the Cancer Care Therapy team at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). The role supports patients with cancer diagnoses and their families, facilitates discharge and safe onward referrals. The service operates Monday‑Saturday and is part of a large therapy department of over 300 staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide assessment and individualized patient‑centred therapeutic interventions for cancer patients, including end‑of‑life care.
* Work jointly with the multidisciplinary team to deliver high standard care and support timely discharge.
* Participate in service development, quality improvement projects, audits, and in‑service training.
* Lead the therapy team in the absence of Band 7 staff and support supervisor and student roles.
* Co‑ordinate and support staff development of Band 4‑5 therapy staff.
Qualifications & Experience
* Post‑graduate experience working with patients with a cancer diagnosis.
* Post‑graduate experience working with end‑of‑life patients.
* Experience in a range of clinical areas such as orthopaedics, medicine, elderly care or neurology.
* Proven knowledge of cancer treatments, side effects and implications for therapy input.
* Clear understanding of NHS systems.
* Experience of supervising and supporting staff and students.
* Experience assessing and ordering complex equipment and representing complex functional tasks.
* Awareness of own well‑being and ability to manage personal workload.
