Sen teaching assistant
Posted: 2 February
Offer description

Protocol Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in North Bristol to recruit a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant to support children and young people aged 7–19 with autism and associated social communication needs.

About the school

This specialist setting supports pupils from Key Stage 2 through to post-16, providing a calm, structured, and nurturing environment where every child is encouraged to explore and fulfil their own potential.

The school places a strong emphasis on wellbeing, independence, and personalised learning. Staff work closely together as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

The role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting pupils with their learning, wellbeing, and personal development. You’ll work closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure every pupil has the best possible opportunity to succeed.

This is a varied and rewarding role, supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, and at times assisting with personal care and positive behaviour support, always using a tailored, child-centred approach.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Building warm, trusting, and supportive relationships with pupils

2. Helping pupils feel safe, confident, and ready to learn

3. Promoting independence, resilience, and personal development

4. Supporting the delivery of a broad, balanced, and differentiated curriculum

5. Working alongside the Class Teacher to support the day-to-day running of the classroom

6. Supporting pupils’ cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development

7. Working collaboratively as part of a multi-professional team

8. Completing records and documentation related to wellbeing, behaviour, or incidents when required

9. Being flexible and ready to support across the school as needed

No two days are the same, so a positive, adaptable, and hands-on approach is essential.

13. Creativity and positivity when supporting individual needs

Desirable (but not essential):

14. Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)

15. At least one year’s experience working as a Teaching Assistant
