Job Overview
Mott MacDonald is looking to expand its Power Transmission and Distribution team with a Principal Electrical Engineer. Based in the UK, the role involves working on industry-leading projects that design innovative solutions for power transmission grid systems, ensuring security of electricity supply, integrating renewable energy, and delivering large power infrastructural plans from concept to delivery.
Responsibilities
* Primary plant layout for HV substations.
* Equipment specifications for HV plant and ancillary equipment.
* Provide engineering design input to major electrical power infrastructure projects across all lifecycle stages from feasibility to commissioning.
* Coordinate with client project teams and internal disciplines (civil, structural, environmental, survey/geotechnical, transport, protection and control, CAD/BIM).
* Deliver projects in new technologies, e.g. energy storage, HVDC systems, smart grid solutions, waste‑to‑energy.
* Provide professional services to clients in the UK and overseas.
Candidate Specification
* Qualified to degree level and ideally working toward Chartered Engineer status.
* Experience in power transmission and distribution industry.
* Experience in design, delivery and supervision of HV substation solutions (110kV–400kV).
* Experience in developing specifications for HV AIS/GIS substations and associated primary/secondary equipment.
* Experience across all stages of project lifecycles.
* Apply regulatory and client health‑and‑safety requirements to HV plant system designs.
* Prepare technical reports in English.
Preferred, But Not Required
* Design of overhead line systems for transmission networks.
* Design of HV cable systems (minimum 110kV).
* Site construction and/or testing/commissioning for HV plant systems.
* Earthing software design (CDEGs) and protection coordination software (ETAP).
* Control and protection systems design.
* Masters Degree.
