A Career in Pipeline Repair Engineering
We are one of the UK's leading companies in engineered composite pipeline repair, serving the offshore and onshore petrochemical industries. We're looking to expand our team with a qualified Proposals Engineer who has experience or knowledge of pipeline and pressure vessel design and repair—through a degree or work experience. Familiarity with ISO 24817 and ASME PCC2 is essential, and experience with composite repair calculations is preferred. We're seeking problem-solvers who are organised, commercially aware, and keen to travel. In the first 6-12 months, you'll accompany repair teams on-site to gain hands-on experience with our repair techniques. This will involve travel and overnight stays (fully expensed).
Key Responsibilities
* Complete multiple design specs and calculations per day to industry standards and client needs
* Apply ISO 24817 and ASME PCC2 to various repair scenarios
* Prepare design calculations and produce supporting reports and technical notes
* Write technical specifications in coordination with clients and project teams
* Create compliant documentation meeting design standards and safety legislation
* Respond to technical enquiries and support client proposals
* Complete Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for repairs
* Lead technical communication with clients
* Adapt designs quickly in response to changing repair situations
* Support the sales team by attending UK and international client presentations
* Lead composite testing to ensure innovation and compliance (includes assembling test coupons and liaising with test labs)
* Implement changes to documents and procedures as needed
* Participate in technical team's weekend on-call rota
* Assist in continuous improvement of business processes
Essential Skills & Qualities
* Strong understanding of composite materials, their behaviour, and application
* Experience with CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred, or SolidWorks/AutoCAD)
* Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) – ideally Autodesk Nastran In-CAD, or similar
* Proven background in engineering design and project management
* Practical application of engineering design in real-world scenarios
* Solid knowledge of mechanical principles (stress, forces, material selection, etc.)
* Strong communication and client-facing skills
* Advanced Excel skills (INDEX, MATCH, VLOOKUP, IF/AND/OR, etc.)
* Ability to work independently and remotely
* Experience sourcing materials and working with suppliers and test labs
Desirable Skills & Experience
* 2:1 or higher degree in an engineering discipline
* Background in Oil & Gas, Piping, or Utilities
* Mathcad proficiency
* Experience with mechanical or design projects (including personal projects)
* Chemical knowledge – particularly epoxy resins and formulations
* Experience in pipeline integrity and inspection
* Practical understanding of basic power and pneumatic tools

Your work will include validating repair designs, producing CAD diagrams, and continuously evaluating and testing new methods to ensure compliance and innovation. This role requires creative thinking, a drive to improve, and an eye for compliance with international standards.
As a 24/7 response business, you'll join a weekend on-call rota to assist with emergency repairs.
