Offer description

For informal queries about the role, please contact Professor Mike Chappell, Professor and Research Cluster Leader for Biomedical & Biotechnology, at m.j.chappell@warwick.ac.uk.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities, and in particular those currently underrepresented in the Engineering sector.

About The Role

We invite applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in the field of Biomedical Engineering. Candidates with expertise in Biomechanics, and/or Medical Device Design, Design of Prosthetics and Orthotics are particularly encouraged.

The post is on the Research and Teaching Pathway. The successful applicant is expected to pursue research that makes fundamental contributions to their field, while also addressing real‑world challenges with practical relevance – potentially working across disciplines and with a broad range of funders including industry. Applicants should demonstrate how their work complements existing strengths within the School, or brings new and strategically aligned research directions.

Consideration will also be given to alignment with the University’s Research Technology Platforms and established research infrastructure. We are especially interested in candidates whose work can leverage or contribute to the School’s collaborative, translational, and industrially engaged research environment.

Candidates will be expected to teach to the highest quality on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the School of Engineering.

Qualifications and Experience

* Hold a PhD in a relevant discipline.
* For an Assistant Professor appointment, demonstrate the capability to establish an independent research activity with ambition and potential to become internationally leading.
* For an Associate Professor appointment, have an established high‑quality independent research activity, with substantial external research funding and experience in successful delivery of teaching activities.
* At either level, initiate, develop and deliver high‑quality research, publish top‑tier journal papers, and demonstrate potential for impact.
* Engage with higher education pedagogy and be willing to develop novel teaching methods, embracing changes in teaching technology and expectations.

About The Department

The School of Engineering is a multidisciplinary department that aspires to conduct research to internationally leading standards. The School has recently established Research Clusters, launched in the Spring of 2025. This post aligns to the Biomedical & Biotechnology Cluster, which includes activities that also align with the Biomedical Engineering Institute. The Cluster comprises at least 12 academic staff. Existing staff pursue research related to Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical and Biological Systems Modelling and Control, Engineering Biology, and Data Analytics.

Applicants may wish to consider how their research links to the School’s Research Technology Platforms, which enable access to high‑end facilities at cross‑department level.

Benefits

* Flexible working arrangements, including part‑time or job‑share options.
* An attractive pension scheme.
* 30 days holiday plus University Christmas closure.
* Generous parental/adoption leave policy.
