Role Overview

We are looking for an exceptional school leader, with a passion for reading, to join our Arch English Hub team. Your core responsibility will be the leadership of The Arch English Hub, one of 34 schools nationally awarded the English Hub Status from the Department of Education. Throughout the past eight years we have had considerable success as an English Hub, developing exceptional practice and outcomes across our partner schools and providing targeted support to a vast number of identified schools across our region. We are seeking to appoint an English Hub Leader to continue this exciting project, with the full support and strategic leadership from the headteacher and Arch English Hub team.

Location: All Souls’ CE Primary school in Heywood, working for Rochdale Local Authority. You will have an office with a support administration team to maintain the financial and clerical aspects of this role. The main focus of the role will be to work with schools within the local region to enable the schools to develop the three core priorities of the Department for Education: Early Language Development, Age Appropriate Phonics Provision and Developing a Love of Reading. However, this could be subject to change in the future within the realms of the Teaching and Learning of English across other key stages.

You must be prepared to travel to partner schools within the local region and beyond to meet with the Department of Education and other English Hubs.

We are looking for an outstanding practitioner and school leader who has an interest in the sector-led system. You will have a passion and a clear vision for the teaching of reading with the opportunity to make that vision a reality through this role. We are looking for someone with significant leadership potential, who has the knowledge and strength of leadership to enable real change in supported schools within the North West region. The candidate must be able to work alongside the school leadership team.

Key Qualifications

* A passion to work with schools across the North West, developing excellent practice and ensuring exceptional outcomes for every child
* Significant leadership experience and potential, with measurable impact
* Current and proven experience in leading phonics/early reading strategies
* Have a proven track record of high-quality English teaching and a passion for this area
* An ability to provide both support and challenge to school leaders
* The capacity to operate as a strategic leader, able to effectively identify clear priorities, develop and implement robust action plans and complete ongoing monitoring
* Be able to lead on the delivery of high-quality learning experiences for all pupils and staff supported by the Hub.
* Be willing to work within a team structure and have the desire to develop your own strategic leadership
* Experience in presenting and facilitating large groups of adults.


Responsibilities

* Ensure all school systems, processes and procedures are adhered to as requested from the Strategic Lead and Governing Board
* Support the delivery team with training needs
* Co-creation and monitoring of the Hub implementation plan
* Attendance at Hub National and Regional Events
* Seeking and supporting opportunities to promote our Hub projects with the DfE
* Coordinate school support including audits, showcases, and conferences
* Support and monitor intensive support programmes with partner schools
* Maintain excellence in teaching and learning at All Souls’ CE and Literacy Specialist Team
* Lead and develop the team of Literacy Specialists in their role supporting schools.
* Be a role model and authentic example, providing high quality in‑school support
* Commit to establishing and maintaining links with a number of schools while supporting them to develop teaching and learning of phonics, early reading and a love of reading
* Support schools, where appropriate, with writing of Action Plans; lead them in the process; work with the Strategic Hub Lead to identify the termly offer to schools; make decisions collectively on allocated funding and intensive support across the English Hub
* Hold school leaders to account on addressing identified priorities and delivering action plans
* Liaise with the Strategic Hub Lead to collate the information needed to meet deadlines for progress reports to the DfE, taking a lead role reporting progress made by the Hub against the set KPIs
* Maintain communications with colleagues from other English Hubs to support other schools and develop the Arch English Hub effectively.


Contract Details

Closing Date: 12:00pm Friday 15 May 2026

Interview: Friday 22 May 2026

Start Date: 1st September 2026

This is a fixed term contract linked to specific external funding initially until 31 August 2028 (with a view to extend).
