Research Administrator

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Research Administrator in the Research and Development Department based in the Horizon Centre at Torbay Hospital.

The Research Team is looking for someone who is highly motivated and passionate about clinical research. You will work with a variety of research professionals, including the Clinical Research Delivery Teams and the Research and Development Department, in a friendly, supportive team environment and help manage the admin associated with our clinical trials.

Our research portfolio has steadily grown over the last year, so this would be an exciting time to join and help facilitate further growth as we take on more varied trials across more disease sites.

* A large proportion of the job will involve auditing research records and liaising with our clinical trials team to ensure all of our documentation is current and accurate.
* A large part of the job will involve working across a number of computer systems and problem‑solving the management of trial data.


Main duties of the job

* Motivated and enthusiastic person with excellent organisational, prioritisation, administrative and communication skills.
* A good eye for detail, high degree of flexibility, strong time management and excellent IT and literacy skills.
* Ability to build effective working relationships, undertake tasks on own initiative, and develop on behalf of the team.


About us

The clinical research delivery team recruits participants from across the organisation into commercial and non-commercial clinical trials and research, supporting research in a variety of clinical specialties and departments.

We provide clinical research expertise from setting up studies through to informed consent, trial treatments and interventions and study follow‑up, using a range of clinical database systems to ensure high quality clinical data collection.

The team supports the safe conduct of research in accordance with the Research Governance Framework and Good Clinical Practice guidelines, ensuring the rights, safety, and well‑being of trial participants are protected.


Job responsibilities

Key responsibilities include managing documentation, auditing records, coordinating data management, and liaising with clinical trials teams to maintain accurate, up‑to‑date trial records.


Person Specification


Knowledge, experience and qualifications

* Good standard of general education, including GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent.
* Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
* Demonstrated ability to use a range of communication methods to deal effectively with internal and external personnel.
* Experience of complex and varied admin duties.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to prioritise and respond to changing demands.
* High attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to work on own initiative.
* Ability to prioritise workload to meet deadlines.
* Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to team development.
* Good interpersonal skills.
* Ability to multitask.
* Demonstrated appreciation of how own actions maintain high quality service.
* Motivated and pro‑active.
* NVQ 3 – Business Administration.
* Ability to train and supervise others.
* Experience working within a research environment.
* Experience working to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) regulations.
* Previous experience of setting up office/administrative systems.
* Experience working within the NHS.
