Staff Officer - Retained Finance Function

Location: Newforge Lane
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £ per hour

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and motivated Staff Officer to join a busy finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong leadership skills and proven experience across Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day finance operations, supporting wider business functions, and managing a small team to ensure accurate and efficient financial processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Managing Accounts Receivable activities, with Accounts Payable cover as required
2. Supervising junior managers and administrative staff, including attendance management and performance oversight
3. Completing daily banking duties, including downloading banking receipts and supplying posting information
4. Managing customer remittances
5. Overseeing the Sales Invoice process, including liaising with internal and external customers and preparing currency invoices
6. Debt management and credit control activities
7. Handling customer and supplier queries via telephone and email
8. Producing month-end reporting, including sales ledger reconciliations and suspense account reviews
9. Assisting branches with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable process queries
10. Managing held supplier invoice notifications and releasing invoices for payment
11. Producing high-level financial reports for senior management

Essential Criteria

12. Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a finance team
13. Minimum of 2 years' experience managing an Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable function
14. Proven experience managing staff and delivering outcomes against competing priorities
15. Strong experience using computerised accounting systems
16. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
17. Excellent communication and organisational skills
18. Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment

Desirable Skills

19. Previous supervisory or team leadership experience within a finance environment
20. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
21. Experience working with multi-currency invoicing
