We are offering an exciting opportunity to develop skills to become a medical physics technologist, while pursuing a fully funded BSc degree in Healthcare Science Practitioner (Medical Physics Technology) offered by the University of the West of England (UWE).
You will work with x-ray imaging equipment, collaborating closely with clinical teams and healthcare science specialists to ensure a safe radiation environment and optimize clinical imaging for patient safety.
This position offers a pathway to a full substantive post at Agenda for Change Band 5 within the department upon successful graduation and completion of the apprenticeship.
The ideal candidate should have 96 UCAS points including physics or chemistry, or equivalent knowledge. A high level of manual dexterity and ability to operate test equipment are essential. Candidates with existing STEM degrees are not eligible.

You will be part of the Radiation Science Services (RSS) team, providing diagnostic radiation imaging and protection services across all UHBW departments using ionising radiation, as well as to external clients in the region.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Quality assurance of x-ray imaging equipment.
2. Ensuring the safe use of diagnostic radiology equipment, including personal control of x-ray and other equipment.
3. Providing staff radiation dose monitoring services.
4. Conducting staff and environmental dose surveys.
5. Reviewing and updating scientific and technical protocols.
6. Managing radiation protection data entry and follow-up on departmental databases.
7. Preparing reports and disseminating radiation protection information.
8. Assisting in measuring and assessing patient radiation doses, including data management and reporting.
9. Acting as an operator under IR(ME)R17 regulations according to Trust policies.
