R-TECH are an independent, accredited testing & materials expertise business that offers specialist testing, consultancy & training services to a broad range of industries, including marine, petrochemical, energy, aerospace, renewables, marine, construction. As part of R-TECH's ongoing growth, we're looking for a technician to join our team.
The role will sit within our consultancy team, providing onsite technical support and failure analysis services for a variety of industrial clients. You will work will involve on laboratory-based testing, while building a strong foundation in engineering and materials science.
The Role
The position will involve primarily laboratory-based work with elements of plant-based activities. The plant-based work entails onsite replication metallography which assesses the condition of a component in-situ to observe features at high magnification. The laboratory-based work will support the failure analysis work which includes performing a variety of mechanical tests in compliance with standard procedures, sample preparation for testing and microscopy and performing routing microscopy work.

Previous experience in a laboratory environment is desirable but not essential. A background or interest in welding, metallurgy or engineering would be advantageous, though full training will be provided. Graduates are welcome to apply. A full UK driving licence is required.
The position will be based at our laboratory in Port Talbot, South Wales. A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered based on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Further, for the appropriate candidate, there will be opportunities to progress their career. The normal working hours are 38 hrs per week, with flexible working hours to be agreed between 07:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday.
