Responsibilities and Qualifications
* You will be a chartered geotechnical engineer with a proven track record in technical leadership and project management.
* The role will include mentoring junior geotechnical engineers; good communication skills are essential.
* You should hold a degree in civil engineering or geology with a postgraduate qualification in a geotechnical subject and be chartered as either a civil engineer or geologist.
* Possess the right flair and ability to develop and expand our infrastructure or energy geotechnics capability, building on our portfolio of projects across a broad spectrum of sectors. A good academic background (ideally MSc or equivalent).
* Chartered status and proven experience working in a fast‑moving engineering consultancy.
* Project management experience: understanding of consultancy and design markets, client relationships, work planning, and commercial management.
* Proven geotechnical design experience and numerical/analytical capabilities for structures, foundations, slopes and anchors using appropriate tools and workflows. Experience with general numerical software such as GeoStudio, Repute, Wallap, etc.
* Digital geotechnical engineering capability, including application of AI and machine learning in design.
* Experience applying CDM Regulations in design and ground investigation environments.
* Excellent interpersonal and technical skills with the ability to develop and lead geotechnical design teams.
* Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise and build relationships with clients to support work‑winning delivery.
* Strong commercial track record in negotiating and running successful jobs, supporting right‑first‑time project delivery. Excellent report‑writing skills with the ability to self‑check and produce accurate work.
* Willingness to travel on short assignments within the UK and overseas; valid UK driving licence.
* One of the roles will be to fulfil a Railway Geotechnics Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) responsibility, leading a design team and client liaison on earthworks and foundation packages for prestigious schemes.
