Age UK South Cumbria (formerly Age UK South Lakeland) have a unique opportunity for an experienced Store Manager to be based at our NEW Roose Road store.
As Store Manager you will be responsible for the effective operation & the day to day running of the store. You will maximize sales through existing opportunities to enable the store to meet stringent annual retail targets, whilst ensuring all health & safety, legislative & organisational procedures & policies are adhered to. You will be required to maintain effective stock management and merchandising, whilst developing and delivering sales initiatives to maximise opportunities for increased sales.
As Store Manager you will be responsible for managing store associates and volunteers. Conducting staff appraisals with store associates you are responsible for. You will regularly brief the Head and Deputy Head of Retail in relation to shop performance. You may be asked to support other Shop Managers by covering other stores if required.
Tasks and responsibilities
Role of Store Manager
1. To take day to day responsibility for managing Age UK South Cumbria shop in Roose Road Barrow store.
2. To support and manage store staff and volunteers
3. To brief the Head of Retail at regular agreed intervals on performance and progress of the shop.
4. Maintain awareness of the work that Age UK South Cumbria is doing within the community.
5. Maintain and develop good relationships with local communities and organisations.
6. Assist the Head of Retail when required including covering other stores if required.
Optimising Sales
1. To ensure that the shop meets sales targets set by the Head of Retail
2. To assist marketing campaigns and sales promotions to increase sales.
3. To ensure that the shop is competing effectively with local competitors.
4. To ensure that staff and volunteers maintain a high standard of customer care.
5. To apply company display, merchandise and standard window dressings.
Maintaining Effective Stock Management and Merchandising
1. To ensure that donate goods are dealt with efficiently in stockroom to then go out on the shop floor or recycling.
2. Ensure the window and merchandise is displayed well and within guidelines.
3. To control stock density and rotation.
4. To initiate local stock and sales promotions.
Staff Management and training
1. To manage the store and delegate to others in your absence.
2. To provide training for new and existing staff and volunteers.
3. To develop initiatives to the recruit new volunteers.
4. To foster a positive team spirit, communicate sales figures and better ways of working within your team.
5. To attend any training or meetings, as advised by the Head of Retail.
Administration
1. To complete daily/weekly sales returns as requested by the Head of Retail.
2. To ensure that banking and till procedures are done daily or when required within deadlines.
3. To adhere to all audit procedures set out by the Retail Manager/manuals.
4. To comply with all Health & Safety procedures.
Previous supervisory experience in retail or customer service is preferred but not essential.
This is a full- time post, 35 hours per week, 5 days over 7. There will be an agreed rota provided in advance whilst providing a consistent work pattern where possible.
We offer five weeks paid holiday per year, plus public holidays and an additional day off on birthdays. A pension scheme is available for staff and after completing a probationary period of six months staff are enrolled into a health benefit scheme.
