The role
As a Mechanical Fitter, you’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting defence programmes — the Type 31 frigate build. This is a hands-on role where your mechanical expertise will directly contribute to the delivery of cutting-edge naval capability. You’ll be part of a dynamic team working in bays, manufacturing areas and build halls, installing and assembling critical components that power the Royal Navy’s future fleet.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Installing pumps, valves, pipework, filters, main engines and mounts
2. Carrying out general mechanical fitting tasks across the build hall
3. Using magnetic base drills and marking out fish plates
4. Interpreting technical drawings and applying torque settings
5. Diagnosing faults and ensuring high-quality workmanship
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and based onsite at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Fitter:
6. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
7. Experience applying torque settings accurately
8. Proven fault-finding skills in mechanical systems
9. Background in heavy industry such as marine, oil & gas, automotive, aviation or shipbuilding
10. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Qualifications for the Mechanical Fitter:
11. Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
