Your new role
As our Associate Engineer – Electrical Infrastructure, you will support colleagues in the Building Services division on various projects. Your expertise will cover electrical infrastructure for private networks, decarbonization, EVs, battery storage, and renewables, providing insights to customers on future-proofing their power networks. A good understanding of regulatory and policy impacts on electricity markets, market negotiations, and network operators is essential.
Your key responsibilities will be:
1. Be the UK electrical subject matter expert on infrastructure projects, contributing at all project stages;
2. Design feasibility studies for new connections or upgrades;
3. Develop connection strategies, equipment sizing, single line diagrams, and spatial designs for substations up to 33 kV;
4. Support the development of the infrastructure team for detailed electrical design;
5. Advise on decarbonisation pathways, future loads, and grid impact assessments;
6. Stay updated on policy, regulation, and market changes affecting electrical infrastructure;
7. Monitor supplier developments, equipment lead times, costs, and market changes.
Your new team
You will join a multidisciplinary technical team working across geographies, collaborating with project managers and colleagues to deliver sustainable, efficient electrical infrastructure solutions, from feasibility to detailed design.
About you
We support your growth from the start. Key qualifications and skills include:
1. Experience with UK distribution network operators, market entities, and infrastructure planning across project stages;
2. Knowledge of grid code compliance and DNO standards;
3. Experience with electrical infrastructure or strategy design for distribution system operators;
4. Understanding of energy market regulations and connection charging;
5. Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with at least 5 years of experience;
6. Strong commercial acumen and client understanding;
7. Proven track record in similar roles such as Design Engineer, Protection Engineer, or Power Systems Engineer;
8. Desirable: Chartered Engineer status or membership in relevant institutions.
